Temporary change of address
A temporary change of address means that mail to your usual address is delivered to another address for an agreed period of time.
The service includes forwarding of the following:
(provided that your usual address is in Åland)
- Within Åland: all addressed mail and postal parcels
- To mainland Finland: all addressed mail and postal parcels
- Abroad: Priority and Economy letters up to 250 grams, and postcards
The service is subject to a fee and can be ordered for a period from one week up to one year. Your primary address does not change, and when the agreed period ends, your mail is automatically delivered there again.
Statutory notification of move
When you make a change of address online or with a form, you can also make the statutory notification of move to the Digital and Population Data Services Agency at the same time. It is used to determine, among other things, your municipality of taxation, your voting municipality and access to certain social security services. Your new address is also automatically passed on by the Digital and Population Data Services Agency to several other authorities and organisations.
By law, a notification of move must always be submitted to the Digital and Population Data Services Agency no later than one week after the moving date when you move permanently from one home to another, or when a temporary stay at another address lasts more than three months.
Free change of address cards
To let friends and business contacts know your new address, you can use Åland Post's change of address cards. They are free, and postage within Åland and Finland is paid. You can pick up the cards at Åland Post's service points.
