Compensation for damage

If you want to apply for compensation for a damaged item, you need to make a claim as soon as you receive the item, or within seven working days at the latest. If a delivery is late or has gone missing, you can make a claim within seven days of the day the sender or recipient was informed of the delay or loss.

Basis for compensation for items

Lost or damaged item

Åland Post can pay compensation for an item that has been lost or damaged, based on the actual and proven damage. Compensation covers direct damage to objects and direct costs. The maximum amount is set out in Åland Post's terms of delivery.

Damage caused by delay

If the contents of an item have been damaged because of a delay, you can apply for compensation. Compensation is limited to the maximum amount set out in Åland Post's terms of delivery.

Sender's responsibility

As the sender, you are responsible for packing the item so that it can withstand transport and handling. If your item causes damage to other postal items or to Åland Post, you are liable to pay for this damage in accordance with the rules that apply to Åland Post's liability towards its customers.

How to apply for compensation

When you apply for compensation from Åland Post, attach documents that prove the value of the goods or the repair costs. The application must be submitted no later than one year after the damage was reported.
