Customs Clearance Difficulties with Imports from Third Countries
Starting Monday, November 25, there may again be disruptions in the customs clearance of postal shipments to Åland from third countries, meaning countries outside the EU.
Background:
On November 25, 2024, stricter digital information requirements will be introduced by customs authorities. This may lead to difficulties and errors in the customs clearance process related to the shipment's digital information flow in the transport chain to Europe and into the EU, before the shipment reaches Åland. The issue concerns how the shipment's previous documentation has been registered and the status of the document. Åland Post is actively engaging in dialogue with the relevant previous transport carriers to find solutions to the problem as quickly as possible.
